In a nutshell, SAA is an academic honorary, created to promote scholarship, leadership, and a closer affiliation between alumni and students at the U of A. Some of the events that we have aided this past year were: What are some fun things that SAA does? Honestly, everything! Every event that our club volunteers at is more than a blast. Some of the events that we help out at are fun simply by their nature. For example the Bear Down Bash, which is an annual dinner, held for Arizona Alumni during the night of the bonfire for Homecoming is simply amazing in itself! Just from socializing and enjoying being part of the festivities is more than enough. But even for events that are not particularly as breathe-taking are still fun because of the people that you are with. The tightly woven bond of friendships is the true magic that SAA what it is! What are the requirements for being in SAA? What is the overall time commitment? In all reality, per week, SAA could take anywhere from 10 hours to 1 hour. SAA has always been structured so that one gets out of the program what one puts in. As of this term, we are going to initiate a simple policy in which members must attend all meetings except for 3 without excused absence. Granted, some students will have classes or work that conflicts with our scheduled meeting times, which is completely understandable, school is more important. It is for these reasons that the majority of our communications are done via email. The policy was created, simply put, to instill a sense of compulsion or deterrence from the program. In all reality, no one will have any difficulty meeting these demands. What time are the meetings? Our meetings this semester are held at 5:00 on Wednesdays at the Swede Johnson Building on the Northwest corner of Speedway and Cherry Avenue. If you would like to attend a meeting to get a taste of what SAA is like, simply contact Dane Sutherland, SAA President or contact Carolyn Harlan, our Club Advisor. How long can one be in SAA for? SAA is for currently enrolled students in undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona. SAA has a brochure out on campus that briefly describes our club and what we do.
