top-rated tour director Manuel Rentería on a remarkable journey to
Mexico’s most beautiful city, the shimmering jewel of Oaxaca.
Rentería has shown experienced travelers his country for more than
26 years. With his extensive knowledge, delightfully wry sense of
humor, and friendly manner, Rentería offers travelers a rare glimpse
behind the scenes and into the heart of Mexico’s rich culture and
traditions. Developed exclusively for the University of Arizona
Alumni Association, the tour program offers full immersion in the
finest arts and crafts that Mexico has to offer. Nestled in the
rugged Sierra Madre Mountains, lovely Oaxaca provides a perfect
backdrop for exploring new ideas and experiencing delightful sights
and sounds.
The
tour’s highlights include a visit to Oaxaca’s Fountain of the Seven
Regions, the fascinating archaeological site at Monte Albán, and the
beautiful mosaic work in the ruins of Mitla. And, you’ll observe the
rich folk art of Oaxaca, including its famed black pottery,
hand-carved wood animals, and amazing woven tapestries. In addition
to its priceless arts and crafts, you’ll be treated to delicious
Oaxacan cuisine. Oaxaca’s crown jewel, the Hotel Camino Real, will
serve as your home base for the week. Built in the 16th century as a
convent, the hotel is beautifully situated in the heart of this
wonderful Spanish colonial city.
