1998 Alumni Band Minutes

Minutes for 8/16/98 at Carl’s Jr. on U of A campus
Meeting called to order at 3:33 p.m.
Elizabeth-Anne Rowe appointed temporary secretary.
Reading of the minutes - Minutes accepted as read
Tres - Balance read ($4224.59)
Old business:
Andy B. will talk to Jim Livengood re: Alumni Band activities.
- SDSU game to close to organize well.
- Milt in San Diego wants to do it.
Suggest that Milt organize through LA Alumni chapter.
Jay Rees wants to have good representation/instrumentation.
Possibility of doing away games in the future
- discuss in newsletter now/preparatory information
Pre-Picnic newsletter/Early Homecoming registration
- Dave O. - Letter sent 1st class at cost of $100.00
- Dave O. sent a copy to Gary S. - post on the UAAB website
- Gary S. - have ‘e-mail’ added onto the registration form
- other adjustments discussed (sending by e-mail).
Discussion of having newsletters more frequently.
We have already received a few registrations and donations.
Relationship with TBS/KKPsi
- Elizabeth-Anne got a list of the officers w/e-mails to Andy B.
and the Alumni committee and a list of the last three years of
new initiates to Gary S.
Discussion re: band camp
- Andy B will supply ice at the rehearsals
- Dave O. - Alumni contact to the Pride is the new GTA, Will.
- Andy B. will ask Jay about:
- What Alumni Band will be asked to play for during the
Winter Break (Men’s B-ball, V-ball, Women’s B-ball)
Possibility of a standing Alumni Band to perform at events
brought about by the Alumni Association (also w/ them)
** Jay’s response - not for on-campus **
We can get music starting the 2nd week in September.
To perform at Homecoming (1/2-time) needs to be strict.
No request was made for a director at the winter break gigs.
Traveling/Mercenary Band - Dave O. will ask Dave B. about proper
authorization needed ** check with Dave B. **
Pride/UAAB Annual Picnic:
- set for Sunday 8/30/98, 11 am - 5 pm at Himmel Park
- Andy B. will do a reminder at the 8/29 marching band rehearsal
- Possibility of others doing reminders throughout the week.
- There needs to be promotion at as many band rehearsals as
possible and a head count of those planning on attending at
Friday’s rehearsal. expecting 250-300 people
- Ask $2 min. donation (change from $1) from Alumni to help
offset costs
- Responsibilities:
- Brian P. - reserve table at Himmel Park starting at 9 a.m.
bring V-balls, ice
- Dave B. - Grill, 2 folding conference tables
- Lee O. - alcohol (discussed to get by the case) & permit
- Dave O. - food (did last year); [salad, chips, veggies,
hamburgers, veggyburgers, hot dogs, beer, soda, water;
also plates, cups, napkins, utensils], V-ball net & pole
set-up, name tags (not buttons), handiwipes/antibacterial
soap
- Elizabeth-Anne - Sign-in sheet (name, address, e-mail)
- Gary S. - pictures
- Activities planned: Volleyball - Pride has trophy, it needs
to get plaqued; and SOCIALIZING
-Dave O. & John P. will make sure that there are trash
receptacles and recycle bins
- Post-Picnic Newsletter - deadline for articles is the picnic
