UAAB Full Board Minutes 1/18/00
Meeting was held at 6:30 PM. Present were John Prokop, Allison Howard, Andrew Barcellos, Mike Coyle, Monica Jasso, Gary Sawyer, and Brian Pierson. Absent were Elizabeth Ann Rowe, Lee Oler, Dave Ball, Dave Olson and Ward Stevens.
Before starting formal business, members present assembled and stamped about 400 Newsletters to be mailed out to active Alumni. Dave Olson had dropped the material off earlier.
Minutes from the last meeting on November 6, 1999 were read and accepted.
Treasurer's report: Dave Olson was absent, so there was no report. Earlier John Prokop had talked to Dave and he indicated there were no transactions since the last report in November. We also discussed just what information should be presented for the Treasurer's report and what we should have in the minutes. There was some disagreement and we agreed we will discuss again with Dave present.
Review of Holiday Season Basketball bands: Everything went fairly well. Food tickets were given out much earlier for the last game which allowed more people to take advantage of this benefit. In the future we'll have to make sure we have them early for each game. The only serious problem continues to be the fact that some alumni band members brought in their spouses or children. This should not be allowed, since we continue to be very crowded. We failed to get sodas at the two Fiesta Bowl Festival Games, apparently due to the fact that no one went to get them. In the future someone needs to be in charge to see that this happens.
Budget for 2000: Dave Olson had earlier provided a draft budget for the year and those present thought it was reasonable. Further discussion will take place with Dave Olson present.
January-February Newsletter: We discussed the issue going out and everyone agreed it was excellent. Noted was the fact that we had expected to have biography section on a few of our board members that didn't get written. We will do this next time, and do so in each of the upcoming issues. Also absent was an article on becoming a member of UAAB and what this means. We will do so in future issues. In our next issue we'd like to include an article on the Nike commercial that UA & Stanford are expected to do in the future. Shannon Casey should be able to help with this story. We also want to include a "Who, What, Where" section to provide an opportunity for members to let us know where they are and what exciting is happening in their lives, or to simply say hello. Also suggested was adding more to the calendar on UA Music activities, and favorite web links. Future newsletter articles will be due on April 1, July 1, September 1, and November 1 for the Quarter Note. We will also have the special Homecoming Issue which will go out in early September.
Social at the Bum Steer: This is set for February 16th at 8:00pm. Ask for Devon at the front to get a discount on cover charge. Penny pints are available until 11:00pm. Discussion of future socials was discussed. We want to have at least one event each quarter. John suggested having a family oriented get-together at his home in June. If we agree to do it we should invite UA Band Staff and their families, as well as our active alumni.
Rodeo Parade on February 24: Andrew and Dave will be participating in handing out drinks to the UA Marching Band at the end of the parade route. Anyone else from the Board that wants to is encouraged to join them. Dave will be parking his truck near the Whataburger on 6th just south of Ajo.
There has been confusion on including Shannon Casey in these meetings as the formal representative of the UA Band Program. She will be invited to future meetings.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:24pm. Next meeting was planned for February 22, but since this meeting it has been decided to postpone the next meeting until March. John will be getting with everyone to pick a date when everyone can participate.
