About Us

The Brunswick Explorer is a public-private partnership with funding provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Maine DOT, Community Transportation Association of America, the Town of Brunswick and other local partners including Sweetser, Bowdoin College, Mid Coast Hospital and United Way of Mid Coast Maine.

The Brunswick Explorer project came out of the work of the Midcoast Collaborative for Access to Transportation (MCAT). MCAT was started in 2004 when Independence Association, a non-profit provider of services for the developmentally disabled, gathered together a group of service providers, other local agencies, municipal planning officers, and interested individuals to talk about how to improve access to transportation in the greater Brunswick area.

Current member agencies include:

  • Bowdoin College
  • The town of Brunswick
  • Brunswick Housing Authority
  • Coastal Trans, Inc.
  • Independence Association, Inc.
  • Maine Department of Health and Human Services
  • Maine Department of Transportation
  • Mid-Coast Hospital
  • People Plus
  • Sexual Assault Support Services of Mid-Coast Maine
  • Sweetser
  • Tedford Housing
  • Town of Topsham
  • United Way of Mid-Coast Maine

MCAT is also involved in initiatives around volunteer transportation and the coordination of existing transportation resources.
